A Goodyear welt is a labor intensive and sturdy method of shoe construction that involves a small strip of leather, rubber of plastic that is sewn along the outside edge of the shoe. The booklet gives shows step by step how this type of shoe is made, and has small pictures of men working at a variety of different machines. The exhibit at the fiar was operated by the George D. Witt and Craddock-Terry Shoe Companies of Lynchburg, and the Wingo, Ellett and Crump Shoe Company of Richmond, but this little booklet was compliments of the United Shoe Machinery Company of Boston, the makers of the machines used to make the shoes.
The cover of the booklet has some paper loss from insect damage. The pages are toned, and one has a small tear.
