    Description

In spite of my unskilled photography, this is a very pleasing warm brown token, with a lot of detail and an interesting partial planchet clip.
John Hawkins was a saloon keeper at the Newburgh House, which was a residential hotel in Cleveland, Ohio. I was able to verify this easily through some simple research. See photo number three, bottom right column, for his listing in an 1865 Cleveland city directory. Speculation that he may have sold women's clothing has no documentation; it is just speculation. It may never be known why he referred to himself as a ladies man.
These do not come up very often, and are more rare than has been supposed, in my opinion.
