Incredibly Beautiful French Art Nouveau 18K Solid Gold Mistletoe Plant Leaves Sewing Thimble
🧵 Jule Christmas ! Fully hallmarked with the traditional French eagles head for 18K gold and the makers mark which unfortunately is not very legible. Weighs approximately 5.6 grams. Approximately 2.47 cm (15.5/16 of an inch) in height, and approximately 1.73 cm (10.8/16 of an inch) in width at its open end. The Old English word þȳmel, the ancestor of thimble, is derived from Old English þūma, the ancestor of the English word for ‘thumb’, pretty cool, no ? Thimbles dating to the 10th century have been found in England. The oldest existing thimble which is made from bronze is Roman, found in the ruins of Pompeii, however the Etruscans who predate the romans are known to have had thimbles. Will continue........
