    Thea Rasche (b.1899-d.1971)
    was Germany's first female aerobatics pilot. In 1925 she received her pilot's license, and soon after became the first German woman to pass the aerobatic examination. She then participated as a pilot in air shows and competitions in Germany and was a charter member of the "Ninety-Nines", a group of 99 female pilots who fought for the advancement of women in aviation that included Amelia Earhart. Rasche had joined the National Flying Group during the 1930's and remained in Germany during World War 2, training as a nurse in Berlin during 1945. After the war she lived in the United States until 1953, when she returned to Germany. Thea died in 1971 in Germany.

She helped popularize air travel and is known for being the first woman to fly across the Atlantic as a passenger aboard the Graf Zeppelin. And the on the first north american flight of the LZ-129 Hindenburg.
