    Description

    Up for auction a Nice and rather Scarce 1905-1920 MONTAGUE CITY ROD CO. "NEPTUNE EXPERT" 60-YARD GERMAN SILVER CASTING TRADE REEL. These can be very tough to find. These were produced by Montague during the first quarter of the last century for exclusive sale through Wm. Frankfurth Hardware Co. of Duluth, Minn., who owned the trademarked "Neptune" brand of reels. I've added a photo of an 1893 ad for Frankfurth's "Neptune" fishing tackle. Face plate is stamped
    "Neptune EXPERT"
    , while the tail plate reads "You Get More Worth From
    Frankfurth"
    . A highly ornamented mid to high-grade model built with German silver side plates and nickel plated pillars & foot. Comes equipped with strong face plate-mounted drag switch, equally strong clicker on the tail plate, removable oil caps and a counterbalanced handle with an ivoroid grip. Reel is in Good to Very Good condition, showing moderate overall wear. Displays nicely. Works perfectly and is very smooth-running. A nice example of these early and scarce trade reels from Montague/Frankfurth, all original and complete. Buyer to pay .90 shipping via U.S. priority Mail, with full insurance and tracking.
