Description

Please read the condition report below before buying. We are offering this, while acknowledging its condition problems, because it is such a strong and unique image.
The tools of his trade are front and center: I don’t know whether that’s a transit level or a theodolite, but the tripod stand is apparent. The surveyor has '
character' and a sense of style, too, with his striped trousers, neatly tied tie, white shirt, and thick fur hat. He has one elbow extended for emphasis and the other on the table. The revolver is the tip-off that his surveying is done in places where he might have had to protect himself.
This certainly strikes me as a frontier image.
SIZE. Quarter plate. Image is 4 1/2 x 3 1/4 inches.
HOUSING. Full case with wear and a retaped spine.
CONDITION. Bubbles, in the silver, in the space to the left of his head. More bubbles directly below, about shoulder high. The largest concentration of bubbles are in the space below his other arm and to the right of his thigh. Light residue spots in each of those areas. Mat abrasions. Resealed (not by us).
APPEARANCE. Superb content. Fantastic pose. Very good contrast. Lots of details. Strong on 'character.'
