UNUSUAL CAMBRIDGE GLASS CAPRICE CRYSTAL ALPINE # 178 80 Oz DOULTON PITCHER
This piece was made by the Cambridge Glass Company, formerly of Cambridge, Ohio.
It is unusual because of the alpine decoration, which is not commonly seen on this particular piece.
The alpine (frosted) decoration is done on three tear drop shaped areas around the body, around the top lip of the jug and over the entire handle of the jug.
This is a high quality hand-made and American made piece of elegant glass.
Specifically this is the Caprice Pattern # 178 80 oz. Doulton Jug.
It is pictured on page 131 of the book

edited by Mark Nye for the National Cambridge Collectors Inc. and according to this book was made in the 1936 -1945 period.
A beautiful example of this hard to find piece!

Age and Condition
The piece dates to circa 1936 - 1945.
It is in excellent original condition.
Please look closely at the photos as they are an important part of my description of this item.
I see no chips, flea bites, repairs, cracks or hairlines to the glass.
Basically, the glass is in perfect condition.
There are no heat checks where the handle was applied.
There is a very minor bit of residue or staining in the very bottom of the jug – see the photos.
There is also one small area on the back corner of the top lip close to the handle where it appears dark in the photos.
This is where the alpine decoration is just not the same color and would have come from the factory this way.
This is not nearly as noticeable in reality as in the photos.
The red you see in some of the photos is the reflection from my shirt and nothing more.
Please keep in mind these photos may be blown up at least 8-10 times normal, so anything you see will look 8-10 times larger in the photos than it really is.
Please note: if you see a dark spot in the photos it is from my camera and is not a mark on the piece.
It will be either just to the right of center towards the bottom or slightly above center on the right side of the photo.
Approximate Dimensions
About 8.5” (21.6 cm) from the tip of the spout to the back of the handle by about 6” (15.2 cm) in diameter and sits about 9.75” (24.8 cm) off the table at the highest point of the handle.

About 2 pounds & .375 ounce (918 grams).

Shipment will be via the USPS.
I estimate shipping costs at the time of listing and any difference between my estimated cost and actual will be refunded back to you through PayPal after the sale is completed.
On smaller items that weigh 12 ounces or less including the shipping container I will offer you the less expensive First Class option.
On heavier items I will also offer a less expensive option, if available.
A delivery confirmation (provides electronic tracking of the shipment) is included with all domestic shipments paid for through PayPal.

If you purchase more than one item I will do my best to combine shipping costs to save you as much as possible.
If you want your package insured, you must let me know in advance of payment.

INTERNATIONAL BUYERS
The only form of payment I accept from international buyers is Pay Pal.
No exceptions!
International shipments will encounter longer shipping times due to distance and Customs requirements.
The USPS says 6-10 business days, but it can take longer.
International buyers are responsible for all customs fees, duties, import taxes or other related customs or import charges and all our out of pocket costs incurred in the shipment of packages internationally.
International shipment options will be via USPS First Class Mail (when the item being shipped meets the requirements of that service) or Priority Mail when it does not.
DO NOT ask us to show a lesser value on the Customs Forms than the item sold for, or to ship the item purchased item as a gift.
