VINTAGE ABU-GARCIA AMBASSADEUR 4500c in Used Condition
Years ago this was my go-to reel, and caught many a bass. Being offered here in very well-used condition, it includes the original instruction manual, and all original parts. Also included is the neat "tooth saver" line cutter, which you can see in the first picture attached to the right side of the reel body. This allowed for ultra-quick line cutting for re-tying lures, etc. My initial search for one of these for sale was fruitless, as I could not find any of these on the used market. Regardless, it is a very handy item.
Main features of reel all still work fine: retrieves nicely, mechanical and magnetic braking systems, as well as star drag, function as designed. However, when casting, there is an obvious "gear-rattling" sound as line comes off spool. Not sure what this is from, but could be a bad gear or similar.
Certainly the reel would need servicing, and probably some light cleaning, though it is not in the least bit dirty or showing lack of lubrication. My guess is this would not be too difficult of a fix-er-upper - or could be parted out for getting another reel of this type completely restored. Once repaired, this would make an excellent first baitcasting reel for someone just starting out.
